A lot of people don't consider plants to be the most exciting thing in the world, as they don't move, talk or interact with you. But hey, there is one that does those things. If you followed us on Instagram in early spring, you might already know that we're talking about nothing other than the Mimosa Pudica.
Mimosa, as we like to call it, has been given many names - Touch-Me-Not, sensitive plant, sleepy plant, shy plant etc. Why? Here's the thing. When you touch a mimosa leaf or even blow on it, it closes up for a few minutes. You can even create amazing patterns and rhythms by touching it in different ways and speeds! Its leaves react to light, opening up with the sunshine or artificial lighting, and closing up during the night.
Its ability to fold up is actually a self-defence mechanism, but not the only one. Mimosa's leaves also contain mimosine that can neutralise the venom of poisonous snakes.
