The main cause of killing houseplants is overwatering not underwatering. This indicator by Sustee helps to avoid both. To get help with overwatering - just water the plant only when the indicator turns from blue to white. And when you stick it in soil and it does not turn even light blue in around half an hour, that means your plant already needs water.

  • White watering indicator by Sustee
  • Large size - best used in pots with <7" diameter
  • Consists of plastic case and changeable inner core that measures moisture
  • Quick instructions on package
  • Extra inner core refills not included. These will be available soon on our site.
  • Large Size - 10" / 25.5cm

When does it turn from blue to white?

When soil moisture is 20%-25% at the bottom of the pot - that's also an optimal time to water.

Can it be used for plants that need drying out, such as succulents?

Succulents need soil to dry out (about 10% soil moisture) between waterings. So you can wait a few more days before adding water, after the indicator turns white.

What if the indicator doesn’t change color after the first time inserting it into the soil?

Soil is probably quite dry. Try watering from the top of the soil so the stick will have a good contact with the substrate and enough moisture to change the color.

When will I know that the inner core needs changing?

We recommend replacing it as given in the average lifespan table to avoid the situation that the core is already depleted and the indicator doesn’t show an accurate moisture level. It’s ok to take Sustee out of the soil occasionally and check the condition of the core.
